"You click or you clash. It's a fact..." This kind of black-and-white thinking makes collaboration a LOT harder. There's a third option: the "right way to do this" does exist, but not within this either-or framework. The "right way" doesn't mean using an identical template for every situation. I'm talking about taking a human approach to working with other humans.

A non-Sam example might illuminate that third option. Clash is an active verb. It doesn't happen without your participation. The real issue here is the ability to respect the person you're eager to "clash" with enough to rethink your assumptions, ask questions, and actually listen. Find other ways to relate if you're continuously in friction. That's creative problem-solving, my friend. You cover lots of territory here, but I think this basic piece is out of focus.

Seeking to understand instead of needing to agree on a single perspective can change the whole landscape. If you're "clashing" instead of "clicking," it's likely that there's a mutual lack of appreciation and understanding on both sides -- your way of thinking (and theirs) may just not make sense to either party.

Yet.

One person might see another person's discipline as less important than theirs, and the other person might have a similar bias. (It's extremely common and rarely addressed.) Don't let unchecked egos run the show!
